Impact Texas Adult Drivers Questions: What to Expect in the Course

Updated October 2026 · Reviewed by Billy Forte

Impact Texas Adult Drivers questions are not something you need to study for, because DPS publishes no quiz, test questions or answer key for the ITAD course. What DPS does describe is a free, 3-part video about the dangers of distracted driving, told with facts and real-life stories. You register, enter an emailed code, watch the three modules in order and print a certificate that is good for 90 days.

Key Facts

  • Quiz or test: none appears on the DPS or ITAD pages, and DPS publishes no answers. See is there a quiz.
  • Format: a 3-part video on distracted driving with real-life stories. See what you will see.
  • Your tasks: register, enter the code, watch all three modules in order, then print. See what you will do.
  • Official answers: the ITAD FAQ answers seven common questions. See the FAQ.
  • Graded tests: those happen in the adult course and at DPS, not in ITAD. See the tests that do count.

Are There Impact Texas Adult Drivers Questions or a Quiz?

DPS describes ITAD as a video, not a test. The ITAD course overview calls it “a 3-part video that explains, with factual evidence, the dangers of distracted driving.” That page names no quiz, no question count and no passing score.

The ITAD FAQ is silent on testing too. Its questions cover who must take ITAD, how long the certificate lasts, the modules, the certificate copy, paper printing and the fee. None of them asks how to pass.

So we do not list any ITAD quiz questions or answers in this guide. DPS has not published any. If the site shows you an on-screen prompt, follow its directions.

What DPS Does Not Publish

On the pages we read, DPS gave no details on these items:

  • Quiz or test questions for ITAD.
  • An answer key.
  • A passing score or a grade.
  • A topic list for each of the three modules.
  • A length in minutes for each module.

Any “ITAD answers” list you find online did not come from DPS. The official source has none to share.

If a detail matters to you and DPS does not publish it, ask DPS. The ITAD Contact Us page is the official place for that, not a third-party website.

The Seven Questions the ITAD FAQ Answers

The best source for ITAD questions is DPS itself. Here is what its FAQ covers, in our own words:

  1. Is ITAD part of the six-hour course? No. The FAQ says “ITAD is a separate requirement,” taken after the adult course.
  2. Who has to take it? Applicants with an ADE-1317 certificate from the six-hour adult course. Applicants 18 and older may do ITAD or the teen version.
  3. Does the certificate run out? Yes, after 90 days. Miss the driving test window and you start ITAD over.
  4. Must I watch the hour all at once? No. You can view the three modules separately, but each one must be finished before the next.
  5. How do I get the certificate? A copy goes to the email on your account. You can also log in later to print it.
  6. Will DPS take it on my phone? No. A paper copy is required at the office or third-party school.
  7. Is there a fee? No. DPS offers ITAD free of charge.

Notice what is missing. Not one of the seven answers mentions a quiz, a score or a retake of a test.

What You Will See

The video is about distracted driving. The course overview says it uses “real life stories of people that have lost their life from distracted driving as well as those who were seriously injured.”

DPS also says the program uses “state-specific statistics, videos and materials.” It says the poor choices it focuses on “center around cell phone use as well as attempting to multitask in the vehicle.”

DPS states the theme in one line: “It is not about bad people doing bad things, but about good people making poor choices.” For more on the subject matter, read our guide to what the ITAD video covers.

What You Will Do

Your part is short and practical:

  • Sign up on the ITAD site with your own name and details.
  • Enter the code the site emails you from “CRIME RECORDS.”
  • Watch module 1, module 2 and module 3, finishing each one in full.
  • Print the certificate on paper.

You need a desktop or laptop with Chrome or Firefox, per the Impact Texas Drivers portal. Our ITAD how-to shows each screen.

After that, timing matters. The DPS ITD page says “The certificate is valid for 90 days.” Bring it to your driving skills test within that window.

Questions to ask yourself before starting ITAD: your age, your adult course, your test date, a computer and a printer

The Tests That Do Count

ITAD is not where you get graded. Two other steps on the way to a Texas license do have tests.

The Driving Skills Test

The road test is graded too, and ITAD is tied to it. The DPS ITD page says the certificate “must be presented before the administration of the driving skills test.” So ITAD is a ticket into that test, not a test of its own. Our Texas driving test guide covers what happens there.

Exams in the Six-Hour Course

TDLR rules require the six-hour course to test highway signs and traffic laws. In person, 16 TAC 84.502 requires at least 70 percent on each exam.

Online, 16 TAC 84.503 requires a final exam of at least 30 questions. A student who fails that final three times fails the course.

The DPS Knowledge Test

Under Transportation Code § 521.161 in Chapter 521, the license exam covers traffic signs and Texas traffic laws. It also covers the effects of phone use and other distractions. DPS says you need 70 percent to pass any knowledge exam.

So distracted driving can show up on a graded DPS test. DPS describes no graded part inside ITAD.

See our guide to the DPS knowledge test for what it covers. No DPS page we read says ITAD counts toward that test.

Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Start

These are the questions that matter for ITAD. Each answer comes from a DPS page or rule:

  • Am I 18 or older? Rule 37 TAC 15.62 lets you choose ITAD or the teen program.
  • Have I finished the six-hour course? If you are 18 to 24, the FAQ says ITAD comes after it.
  • Is my driving test within 90 days? The certificate lasts 90 days.
  • Do I have a computer? Phones, tablets and iPads do not work.
  • Can I print? DPS takes paper copies only.
  • Will I use my own name? The sign-up page says the certificate “will only print for the name registered on the account.”
  • Can I get the code email? It comes from “CRIME RECORDS,” and it may land in spam or junk.

If you answer no to the test-date question, wait. Watching too early can force a restart.

Where ITAD Sits in the License Steps

A common question is when ITAD happens. The FAQ gives two limits. It comes after the six-hour adult course, and no more than 90 days before the skills exam.

In between, you still apply at DPS, show your documents and pass the vision and knowledge tests. The driving test comes last. Our guide on getting a Texas license at 18 lists every DPS step in order.

If you plan to test at a third-party school, ITAD still applies. The DPS third-party testing page lists ITAD for applicants 18 to 24 and for those 25 and older.

Who Can Skip These Questions Entirely

One group does not take ITAD at all. The DPS Moving to Texas page covers new residents 18 and older with a valid out-of-state license, or one not expired over two years. It says they are exempt from the knowledge and skills exams, ITD and adult driver education.

Those drivers still surrender the old license and apply at DPS. Everyone else who takes the driving skills test at 18 or older needs ITAD or ITTD first.

Where to Send Your Own Questions

Start with the ITAD FAQ, since its Contact Us page asks you to check there first. For problems the FAQ does not cover, the ITAD Contact Us page listed ITD@dps.texas.gov and 512-424-5623 when we checked.

Questions about your license application belong with DPS driver license services. Questions about the six-hour course go to your TDLR-licensed course provider.

What DPS publishes about ITAD and what it does not: no quiz, no answer key, a free 3-part video and a 90-day certificate

What We Found on the Official Pages

On the DPS and ITAD pages we checked on October 26, 2026, we looked for any mention of an ITAD quiz. We found none. The FAQ had seven questions, and none was about a test or a passing score.

The course overview page described the video, its theme and its California model. It also had links for Register, Log In, Continue Course and Retrieve Certificate. None of those links pointed to an exam.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Each point is based on DPS pages or rules:

  • Paying for ITAD answers. DPS publishes no quiz, so there is nothing official to buy.
  • Treating ITAD as the knowledge test. The knowledge test is a separate DPS exam with a 70 percent pass mark.
  • Skipping ahead. Each module must be finished before the next opens.
  • Starting long before the test. The certificate lasts 90 days.
  • Showing a screen instead of paper. DPS requires a printed copy.

How Requirements Can Vary

Texas driver license rules come from state law, Texas DPS rules and TDLR rules, and they apply statewide. What you need still depends on your age, whether you hold a license from another state, and which tests you have already passed.

Laws, fees and office procedures can change. Check the Texas DPS and TDLR websites for current rules before you book an appointment or enroll in a course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ITAD have a quiz at the end?

DPS does not describe one. Its ITAD pages talk about a 3-part video and a certificate, with no quiz, score or answer key.

Can I fail the Impact Texas Adult Drivers course?

DPS publishes no passing score for ITAD. The rules DPS does state are about finishing each module, printing the certificate and testing within 90 days.

Where can I find the ITAD answers?

DPS has not published any. A list sold or shared online as ITAD answers is not an official DPS source.

Will the DPS knowledge test ask about distracted driving?

It can. Transportation Code § 521.161 says the exam covers the effects of phone use and other distractions. You need 70 percent to pass.

Do I need to study before watching ITAD?

DPS gives no study list for ITAD. Watch each module in full, since the FAQ requires it before you can move on.

What happens after I finish all three modules?

You get a certificate. A copy is emailed to you, and you can log in to print it again. Print it on paper for your driving test.

Can I view the ITAD pages in Spanish?

The ITAD pages have an En Español link. For other help in Spanish, the Contact Us page says to send translation requests to ITD@dps.texas.gov.

Is ITAD the same for adults and teens?

No. ITAD is a 1-hour video for adults. The teen program, ITTD, is a 2-hour video, and adults 18 and older may choose either one.

Conclusion

DPS publishes no ITAD quiz, question bank or answer key, so there is nothing to memorize. Expect a 3-part video on distracted driving, a short sign-up and a certificate you must print within 90 days of your driving test.

The graded tests come in the adult course and at DPS. If you are 18 to 24, you can take the six-hour course first with Driving Logic’s online Texas adult driver education course.
